AREVA Federal Services Nearing Final Design of Battelle Energy Alliance INL Disposal Project

Date:

Less than one year after being awarded the contract, AREVA Federal Services (AFS) is nearing final design completion for the Battelle Energy Alliance Remote-Handled Low-Level Waste (RH LLW) Disposal project at Idaho National Laboratory (INL).

Over a six-hour period on February 10, 2015, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Design Review Team examined the extensive design and project information, after which they complimented the AFS team on the completeness and thoroughness of the package. The design now continues through the DOE review process for final approval.

blog-2015-03-25Project highlights:

  • Final design submitted to customer for final review.
  • Design phase of project progressing within budget.
  • AREVA’s subcontractor expenses remain under budget.

Following design approval, construction ramp-up is scheduled to begin this summer, with completion tentatively scheduled for 2016.

As described in the original announcement, the new facility is designed to ensure safe disposal of waste generated at INL, and will replace an existing facility scheduled to close in a few years.
